A ventricular septal defect (VSD), or hole in the heart, forms in early pregnancy. There’s nothing you did to cause it, and it’s very treatable.
In fact, at Children’s Wisconsin, we have a 100% survival rate for VSD repair. We’re able to repair many VSDs in our cardiac catheterization lab. This is a less invasive procedure than surgery, and children heal very quickly.
